4th Line Theatre¹s world premiere of Sky Gilbert¹s St. Francis of Millbrook (with a cast if 32) opens August 13 and runs until September 1st. This is not a play you would expect from Sky Gilbert, the enfant terrible of Toronto theatre takes an unexpected turn and has written a funny and thought-provoking coming of age story based on a true story about growing-up gay in rural Ontario.
The play celebrates community and inclusivity while looking at the real life struggles that young people face as they wrestle with finding their individual identities while living up to their parent¹s expectations.
St. Francis of Millbrook, set in 1994, celebrates a generation who loved Madonna, Tetris, Grunge and Doogie Howser M.D.
Directed by 4th Line Artistic Producer Kim Blackwell and starring renowned Canadian actor Elley-Ray Hennessy and founding Artistic Director Robert Winslow as a burned out hippie couple who provide support and redemption for Luke.
Starring in the lead role of Luke Simcoe is up and coming Canadian actor Nathaniel Bacon who hails from Burnt River Ontario just north of Bobcaygeon and who has his own personal tales of dealing with bullying and harassment growing up gay in a small town.
This world premiere is being presented on the unique outdoor barnyard stages of a rustic 5th generation Farm in Millbrook, ON.
