Toronto – Toronto Operetta Theatre’s 2012 -2013 Season opens with a gala event: ITALIANISSIMO!, a concert featuring favorite TOT stars Gabrielle Prata, Laura Albino, Robert Longo and Christopher Mayell, with Maika’i Nash as music director on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 2 pm. Italy and all things Italian have an eternal allure, seducing us over and over again with an extravagant love for life. Toronto Operetta Theatre’s tribute to the land south of the Alps will be filled with tunes from operettas inspired by the spirit of La bella Italia… and with traditional Neapolitan melodies made famous by opera singers such as Caruso and later superstar Andrea Bocelli. TOT’s General Director Guillermo Silva-Marin has chosen hits from Strauss’ A NIGIHT IN VENICE, G&S’ THE GONDOLIERS, Loesser’s MOST HAPPY FELLA and Herbert’s NAUGHTY MARIETTA. Italian melodies such as ‘Torna a Surriento,’ ‘Santa Lucia,’ ‘Mamma,’ and Andrea Bocelli’s ‘Con te Partirò’ will add to the excitement of the musical matinee. In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere of a fun-filled afternoon in Italy, there will be an Artist’s Reception in the lobby. TOT friends, operetta lovers and the artists mix and mingle over wine and a light buffet following the performance . . . only $38 (all taxes included) plus your ticket to the show. Inquire early about our Italianissimo Package for even greater savings (tickets for both Artist’s Reception and performance starting from $68).
Outlining the season as a whole, TOT’s General Director Guillermo Silva-Marin noted that “This year we have streamlined our programming and will be presenting three events more widely spread throughout the year for a total of 14 performances, all at the St. Lawrence Centre. I’m also happy that we will be producing timeless works by two of the greatest musical creators ever . . . Lehar and Offenbach.” Lehar’s THE MERRY WIDOW will be presented on Dec. 28, 29, 30 (mat), 31 (Gala New Year’s Eve Party), 2012 and January 3, 4, 5, 6 (mat), 2013 and Offenbach’s LA VIE PARISIENNE will be seen from April 30 to May 5, 2013.
In addition to support from the Toronto Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council, the Jackman Foundation, Bedolfe Foundation, the Good Foundation and the Michael and Sonja Koerner Foundation, the company counts among its partners Desjardins Financial Security, KPMG, Barrick, RBC Dominion, HotHouse Café, Victoria Hotel, Rabba Fine Foods, the Coffee Mill, Habaneros, Marriott Hotels, Huziak Graphic Designs and media sponsors Deutsche Presse and MZ Media.
