This is the story of a 9-year-old girl who lives in the shadow of her deceased older sister. One morning Vipérine wakes up and embarks on a mission that will take her deep into a dark realm. Blending the comic and the fantastic, the piece explores the difficulty of coping with bereavement, and the courage required not only to confront our fears but also to look within ourselves and to accept who we are, reads the back cover of the play.
The second part of the “Cycle of Loss” by the duo of Bélanger-Brullemans – the first, Beauté, chaleur et mort, was presented at the NAC last season – Vipérine received the award for best script for young audiences at the Théâtre Nouvelle Génération festival in Lyon in 2011. A very dynamic play full of action and humour, it is a veritable human and artistic quest.
