Studio 180 Theatre is 10 years old and we want to celebrate with you!
Please join our team, and a company of over 50 Studio 180 alumni, for this one-night-only event featuring the play that started it all.
Developed after the murder of openly gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard in 1998, The Laramie Project gives voice to the real-life testimony of more than 50 residents of Laramie, Wyoming, as they struggle to come to terms with the event and the questions raised in the wake of violence.
In 2003, Studio 180 burst onto the Toronto theatre scene with the Canadian premiere of this internationally acclaimed drama – a piece that is widely recognized as one of the most socially important plays in recent memory, and among the most influential works of documentary theatre ever.
Based on the success of this inaugural venture, we remounted our production of Laramie the following year, for a sold-out run at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. Since then, we have never looked back, and Studio 180 has enjoyed a decade of successes, introducing Toronto audiences to provocative and engaging plays, mounting 14 more productions, and emerging as one of the city’s foremost independent theatre companies.
On February 25, 2013, we look forward to marking our 10th Anniversary with this significant play, and with many of our alumni – from members of our ensembles and creative teams to former staff. Please come to the celebration, and enjoy a special evening with Studio 180.

What Toronto critics had to say about Studio 180’s productions of THE LARAMIE PROJECT
“A wonderful tapestry of compassion and hate woven together with invisible threads of homophobia and humanity… An excellent, moving piece of theatre.”
NNNN NOW MAGAZINE
“This play never judges anybody… [Its] straightforwardness, the inevitable snatches of comedy that arise from the interviews and the great swathes of sorrow also apparent in Laramie make the project utterly compelling.”
★★★★ GLOBE AND MAIL
“The play grips, and it won’t let you go”
