January 30, 2013. Toronto, Ontario... Angelwalk Theatre is thrilled to present a dangerously fun evening of musical theatre bliss with a special one night only showing of Villains and Vixens. Featuring Jay Davis, Jayme Armstong and Astrid Van Weiren, this journey through the shadier and sensuous side of musical theatre will take place at The Toronto Centre for the Arts in the Studio Theatre on February 20, 2013.
Villains and Vixens unites three of Canada's most exhilarating musical theatre stars, Jay Davis, Jayme Armstrong and Astrid Van Wieren. Playing some of Broadway's most infamous villains that we love to hate and provocative vixens that we dare to love, they will take us on a journey into the darker and sexier side of many of your favourite musical works of the last 100 years. Robert Graham will provide piano accompaniment for this evening of musical ecstasy.
Jay Davis has previously appeared in Angelwalk Theatre's I Love You Because and Ordinary Days. Recent credits include Queen For A Day: The Musical, The Last Five Years, Next to Normal, Living With Henry, Tick Tick Boom, Just East of Broadway, Assassins, The War Show, Dracula, Miss Saigon, and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Actress Jayme Armstrong is familiar to Angelwalk Theatre audiences for her role as Heidi in [title of show]. Selected credits include Maria in The Sound of Music, Judy in 9 to 5, Rosemary in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Guenevere in Camelot (North American Tour), Amalia in She Loves Me (Rose Theatre), Ulla in The Producers (Betty Nomination, Stage West), Oliver! and South Pacific (Stratford Festivel).
Astrid Van Wieren is a Dora Award winning actor (This Wide Night, Mermaid Parade) and was in the original North American company of Mamma Mia!. Other favourite credits include the Drowsy Chaperone in The Drowsy Chaperone and Georgie in The Full Monty (STC); Vicki in The Full Monty (StageWest); Baal in Baal - a Rock'n'roll play (Buddies/Mercury); Dreamland and Lady Rumpers in Habeas Corpus (Canadian Stage).
Villains and Vixens is the last in Angelwalk Theatre's new Showcase Series, which features Canadian musical theatre talent in a series of three one-night shows. The series included the one-woman show, Dianne and Me, starring Dora Award winner Elena Juatco and from Justin to Kelly starring Justin Bott and Kelly Holiff.
Now in its fourth season, Angelwalk Theatre is a not-for-profit professional theatre company dedicated to producing Off-Broadway musical theatre and providing opportunities for both emerging and established Canadian theatre professionals. Founded in 2009, Angelwalk Theatre has quickly established itself as a leader in producing Off-Broadway musical theatre in Toronto, where it presents two shows annually as a resident company in the Studio Theatre at the Toronto Centre for the Arts.
To date, Angelwalk Theatre has produced seven Off-Broadway musicals: the world premiere of Off-Broadway On Stage, the Canadian premieres of I Love You Because and Ordinary Days, the Toronto premieres of Altar Boyz and [title of show], and two musicals by Jason Robert Brown, The Last Five Years and Songs for a New World.
