Hamilton, Ontario (Friday, October 11, 2013) For Immediate Release – AN EVENING WITH LUCKY JIM LACROIX by playwright Sky Gilbert starring Stephanie Jones and Jason Cadiex has its World Premiere at the Artword Artbar, at 15 Colbourne Street, in Hamilton, Ontario, from November 7-17, 2013 before moving on to The Sullivan Mahoney Courthouse Theatre in St. Catharines. In 2007 Jones and Cadieux appeared in Gilbert’s premiere Hammertheatre production of CRACK.
THE PLAY: AN EVENING WITH LUCKY JIM LACROIX is an up close and personal conversation with contract killer Lucky Jim who has agreed to give a talk at a local community centre in the hopes of earning brownie points for his upcoming parole hearing. The play is a darkly comic look at contemporary obsession with the “righteous kill”, morality and the inadequacies of our justice system.
HAMILTON SHOW DATES AND TIMES: All Hamilton performances of AN EVENING WITH LUCKY JIM LACROIX are presented by Hammertheatre and will take place at the Artword Artbar at 15 Colbourne Street in Hamilton, Ontario. Tickets are $15 with Pay-What-You-Can Sunday Matinees. Cash only. Tickets can be purchased one hour before the show. Artword Artbar is a "listening room", seating 60 at café tables and bar stools, with a small stage, providing an intimate cabaret environment for live music and performance. CREATIVE TEAM BIOS:
JASON CADIEUX (JIM LACROIX): Actor, playwright and founding member of The Essential Collective Theatre Company. An actor of 15 years, Cadieux has worked extensively in theatre in Ontario and across the country. His plays 17.5 and HARD WAYS were both awarded Critics Pick at the 2007 and 2009 Summerworks Festivals.
SKY GILBERT (WRITER/DIRECTOR): Sky Gilbert is a writer, director, and drag queen extraordinaire. He was co-founder and artistic director of North America’s largest gay and lesbian theatre, Buddies in Bad Times, for 18 years where he produced over 25 of his own plays. He has received three Dora Mavor Moore Awards, the Pauline McGibbon Award for theatre directing, the Toronto Arts Foundation’s Margo Bindhardt Award, the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts’ Silver Ticket Award, and the ReLit Award for his novel AN ENGLISH GENTLEMAN. Dr. Gilbert is an Associate Professor and holds a University Research Chair in Creative Writing and Theatre Studies at The School of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph. STEPHANIE JONES (CHRISTIE BLIGHTHILL): Actor, playwright and founding Artistic Director of The Essential Collective Theatre Company. Stephanie is a native resident of the Niagara region. An Actor and playwright with 20 years experience, Stephanie has performed in theatres across Canada such as Toronto’s Buddies In Bad Times Theatre (GULAG by Robin Fulford), Toronto’s Factory Theatre (17.5 by Jason Cadieux) & Victoria’s Belfry Theatre (ONE NIGHT STAND by Carol Bolt).
