Toronto's TrypTych Concert and Opera will be presenting the Canadian premiere of a staged production of Verdi's first opera, Oberto, Conte di San Bonafacio on November 16th and 17th at The West Hall Theatre, Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2737 Bayview Ave (south of the 401).
Oberto stars an all-Canadian cast with Henry Irwin as Oberto, Lenard Whiting as Riccardo, Natalie Donnelly as Leonora, Michele Bogdanowicz as Cuniza and Jennifer Routhier as Imelda. This evocative and stimulating production is directed and designed by Edward Franko with musical direction at the piano by Canadian Opera Company Ensemble alumnae Timothy Cheung.
Joining the cast in this dramatic story of jealousy, revenge and betrayal is an augmented Ensemble TrypTych Chamber Choir. This 174th anniversary production to the day of its first premiere on November 17th, 1839 promises to be one of the more unique and exciting productions on the Toronto operatic calendar in 2013.
Please come join us for our contribution to the international Verdi 200 celebration in honour of the 200th anniversary of Verdi's birth. Giuseppe Verdi, the great master of the operatic form, hits his musical and dramatic stride in full force with this impressive debut in Oberto.
All of this in the comfortably intimate and fine acoustic of the newly refurbished and fully accessible West Hall Theatre. If you love your opera up close and personal, this is the production for you!
Oberto will be sung in Italian with projected translations in English!
TrypTych Concert and Opera gratefully acknowledges the Ontario Arts Council for their financial support of this project.
