October 16, 2013 – TORONTO, ON. The Red One Theatre Collective is proud to present Patrick Marber’s After Miss Julie, the highly acclaimed adaptation of Strindberg’s Miss Julie, running November 15th to 30th (preview November 14th) as part of the exciting fall season at The Storefront Theatre.
In After Miss Julie, Marber takes us back to July 1945. It is the night of the Labour Party’s famous landslide election victory. Celebrations flood into the streets. Miss Julie descends into the servants’ kitchen of her father’s country estate seeking John, the chauffeur. Over one tragic summer’s night, Julie and John take their passionate entanglement to the edge. This provocative adaptation cleverly challenges post-war era conventions of class and gender; Marber amps up the power play between Julie, John, and his fiancée Christine to a deliciously dangerous level.
After Miss Julie is directed by DORA award winning director David Ferry (The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, The Life of Jude and Entitlement for Summerworks, Daniel MacIvor’s Inside for Luminato); Mr. Ferry previously directed Red One's site-specific production of Howie the Rookie. This knock-out cast features Red One’s Claire Armstrong as Julie (Eigengrau, Wait Until Dark, Theatre Brouhaha’s ROCK); Human Cargo’s Artistic Director Christopher Morris as John (Necessary Angel’s Andromache, Hamlet, Civility); and Outside the March's Amy Keating as Christine (DORA best actress nomination for Mr. Marmalade, Passion Play).
The Red One Theatre Collective is committed to making the arts accessible to all Toronto communities by delving into overlooked and underused areas of our city, and producing innovative site-specific theatre. Red One’s latest endeavour is The Storefront Theatre, a multi-disciplinary arts hub dedicated to showcasing the work of Toronto’s emerging and independent artists.
