This fall Green Thumb Theatre and Theatre Passe Muraille are pleased to present the world premiere of George F. Walker’s Moss Park starring Haley McGee and Graeme McComb. Marking the first collaboration between the two theatres, Moss Park is the companion piece to Tough! originally produced by Green Thumb Theatre in 1994. Fast paced, darkly funny and largely candid; it is quintessential George F. Walker.
Patrick McDonald, Artistic Director at Green Thumb Theatre, will be directing the show. “Moss Park is George F. Walker at his best,” says Patrick “a funny, engaging and moving look at two young people as they struggle to stay together when faced with the enormous challenges that dog the working poor.”
In Moss Park we catch up with Tina and Bobby a few years after Tough!. They have a toddler, are still on again off again and — as Bobby absorbs the fact that Tina is pregnant for the second time — they struggle to see a future that doesn’t include poverty and crime.
“Each year our season has work from outside Toronto and this season I am so pleased that we finally get to collaborate with Vancouver’s Green Thumb Theatre. For decades now, I have thought that Patrick McDonald is one of our countries finest directors, but people here in Toronto don’t get to see his work,” said Andy McKim, Artistic Director at Theatre Passe Muraille. “It is such a thrill to produce George Walker at Theatre Passe Muraille for the first time. It is also a personal joy that in our east coast, west coast, cast we are introducing Graeme McComb from Vancouver and welcoming back a TPM favourite, Haley McGee. All in all, I am so pleased with the astonishingly good artists that we have creating this play.”
The production team for Moss Park includes: Martin Conboy (set/lighting designer), Erin Fitzgerald (stage manager), Heather Landon (costume coordinator), Julie McCann (sound designer).
Theatre Passe Muraille offers “Play Your Part” events that will give audiences the chance to get more out of their evening at the theatre. The “Play Your Part” events for Moss Park are:
