October 21, 2013. Toronto, ON. After two years of sold-out runs at the Toronto Fringe Festival – Genesis & Other Stories (2013) and the award-winning The Wakowski Bros. – A Canadian Vaudeville (Best of Fringe, 2012) – Aim for the Tangent Theatre is proud to make its non-festival debut with: Mature Young Adults at Kensington Market’s VideoFag.
This tragi-comic love story continues the theatrical tradition of East Coast playwriting greats David French and Daniel MacIvor with a contemporary twist for the Facebook generation. In a world where labels and gossip fly through cyberspace like lightning, is it possible to love without giving up your identity? Can you escape the container your community places you in?
This production marks its Toronto debut, following three years of development, including a year with the Paprika Festival where author Wesley J. Colford served as writer-in-residence. An earlier version of the play was published as part of the anthology “Out on a Limb: Short Plays by New Playwrights” (Signature Editions, 2011). This May, Colford participated in the PARC Playwrights Colony in Sackville, NB where a new draft was developed with acclaimed dramaturg, Kim McCaw and Don Hannah.
The play was finally produced this summer at the Atlantic Fringe Festival in Halifax where it received great support and lauded reviews. In the words of Andrea Nemetz of the Chronicle Herald, “Everyone has been a teenager in love, or will be. …an astonishingly real look at that most complicated of emotions.”
Colford, who also penned The Wakowski Bros. (which makes its professional debut this March with Talk is Free Theatre), will be returning to the stage alongside up-and-comer Renée Haché, both of whom left Nova Scotia to attend George Brown Theatre School.
Alexander Offord (The Hystericon , Toronto Fringe 2013) directs this full production after shepherding the play through various workshops in its development. Local indie wunderkind
Joe Pagnan (Gruesome Playground Injuries) joins the team as Set and Lighting Designer.
