TORONTO, October 25, 2013 – A Lasting Dose Production proudly presents Disco Pigs by acclaimed Irish playwright Enda Walsh and up-and-coming Toronto director Matthew Walker. This dark and haunting play follows Pig and Runt, inseparable childhood friends, as they come-of-age in a harsh and isolating world. Disco Pigs previews Wednesday November 20th (7 pm only, $10/ticket), opens Thursday November 21, and closes December 1st, with two shows a night at 7pm and 9pm, at Oz Studios. Tickets are $20 (inclusive of HST). Tickets are available online at brownpapertickets. Seating is limited to 30 each performance.
Disco Pigs follows the story of Pig and Runt, born seconds apart in the same hospital in Cork, Ireland. They are inseparable with an almost supernatural understanding. As partners in crime, they also share an appetite for recklessness and destruction. Living in their own world and barely communicating with the world around them, they foster a relationship that borders on the telepathic. Days before their 17th birthday the perfect balance of their world begins to shift. Pig's sexual awakening and increasing jealousy begins to threaten their private universe. Unable to contemplate the loss of Runt, Pig’s unpredictable nature spirals out of control in a trail of violence and destruction. The inseparable are about to separate, and which one will survive will depend on which one can break free.
Bryan Demore (Pig) and Claire Burns (Runt) come together again for this production after a successful run in The Sad and Cautionary Tale of Smackhead Peter (dir. Heather Davies, Summerworks 2010).
Director Matthew Walker’s hit production of Matchbox Macbeth in 2010 made him an artist to watch. Now Magazine listed Matchbox Macbeth as one of the top ten shows of the 2000’s. Matthew Walker is Co-Artistic Director of Litmus Theatre and is currently directing the highly anticipated Birth of Frankenstein.
