Toronto – Have you ever wanted to perform Shakespeare on stage? Here’s your opportunity. Shakespeare in Action (SIA), Canada’s leading Classical Theatre Company for Young Audiences will present it’s 3rd Annual Shakespeare Challenge Fundraiser in Toronto, on February 8, 2014, at the Historic Arts & Letters Club of Toronto. Shakespeare in Action has opened its recruitment process and is looking for 15 fearless individuals to help support the not-for-profit by raising money and taking the stage to present an abridged version of William Shakespeare’s, Twelfth Night, directed by Artistic Director, Michael Kelly.
“Shakespeare gave us the greatest gift – the power of language and words. We want to share this gift with our Challenge Champions and with the next generation, the future champions,” said Kelly about the one night extravaganza.
Participants of the challenge raise money to support Shakespeare in Action’s many youth programs, including support for schools and students without capacity to access SIA programming. The Shakespeare Challenge sets the standard for fundraising, as participants are showcased at a fun on-your-feet event – all in the name of access to the Arts.
“I feel that every adolescent should have access to the opportunities that theatre has afforded me because it really is life-altering,” Lindsay Baxter writes of her 2013 Shakespeare Challenge experience. Participants will enjoy professional stage training, and have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for theatre, and believe in the significance and importance of accessibility to creative cultural arts. Past participants come from all walks of life including real estate professionals, lawyers, and even a one-time Toronto mayoral hopeful.
An upcoming information session is scheduled for November 20, 2013. For more information, and details on how you can make a difference, please visit the Shakespeare in Action website at www.shakespeareinaction.org. Deadline for registration is November 29, 2013.
