November 28, 2013 (Toronto, ON) - Sometimes Fate F*cks With You! Rob van Meenen's bold and original new play Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) hits the Toronto stage this December with a star studded cast. The production will begin with a preview performance December 6 for a strictly limited engagement of 12 shows at the Factory Studio Theatre through December 15, 2013 with Harry Judge making his Toronto directorial debut. The official opening is December 7.
Repetitive Strain Injury features a powerhouse cast including Robin Dunne, best known for his award-winning portrayal as Dr. Will Zimmerman in the SyFy Channel’s hit series Sanctuary. Dunne will star opposite Amy Matysio (inSAYSHAble, Single White Spenny), Pat Kiely (Being Human, Seed), Ava Markus (Mirvish/OTM’s Terminus) and accomplished local theatre artist Imali Perera.
With Matysio having just wrapped the feature film WolfCop, Dunne currently shooting Showcase’s Defiance, and Kiely getting set to premiere his feature film Three Night Stand at the Whistler Film Festival, which he wrote and directed, RSI brings together some of Canada’s most sought after performers in Film/TV and stage.
The play tells the story of thirty-something couple Dave and Julie, who are about to get married. Julie, prone to extremes, has made a fateful connection with a mysterious woman from her credit card company - too bad the line went dead. Dave, well-intentioned if also happily unaware, could use some helpful advice, but his best pal Guy certainly has a strange way of doling it out.
Flashing forward a year, with the ‘I do’s’ done and a paper anniversary in tow, new friends and strange opportunities have put things in flux. RSI follows a tangled web of relationships, exposing five reluctant adults, caught in a karmic pressure cooker. RSI is a bitter sweet love story and a look at the life lessons we teach ourselves. And some lessons in life need to be learned again. And again. And again.
Van Meenen follows up the wildly successful run of his first play Burn (co-written with Cherise Arnesen) with this powerful and unblinking dissection of modern relationships. Darkly funny and unflinchingly honest, with RSI Van Meenen’s pointed observational tone creates a sharply crafted tale that is candidly cruel, sexy and deeply relatable.
RSI will mark the inaugural production from Company Kid Logic, a collective of like-minded and celebrated artists who have set out to showcase dynamic and relatable contemporary work to Toronto audiences and theatre makers. Multiple award-winning and widely acclaimed as actors, writers, directors and producers, Company Kid Logic has selected RSI to launch this dynamic company of players
RSI plays Dec 6-15, 2013 (Opens Dec 7) at the Factory Studio Theatre. Tickets are available via the box office at 416-504-9971 or www.factorytheatre.ca.
RSI is produced by Amy Matysio, Ava Markus, Robin Dunne (Company Kid Logic) and Derrick Chua. Set and Costume Design by Northern Light Theatre’s (Edmonton) Artistic Director Trevor Schmidt, Lighting Design by Factory Theatre’s Technical Director Jamie Monteiro, with stage management by Evan Harkai.
