Each year, our auction continues to get more successful and exciting than ever, and once again our community has showed overwhelming support for Canada’s largest and longest-running queer theatre company.
This year shattered records, thanks to amazing visual art collections curated by Derek Sullivan, Winnie Truong, Meera Margaret Singh and Lauchie Reid as well as the tireless effort of our curatorial advisor Chris Ironside and Tuck Shop curator Keith Cole. Both the live and silent auctions, as well as the Tuck Shop, were unparalleled successes, raising much-needed funds to support of Buddies artistic and community programs.
The company also experienced great success with the first-ever ARTATTACK! Artist’s Multiple. Celebrated painter Kris Knight offered a series of 20 limited-edition, hand-embellished prints that were completely sold out well before the evening was over.
Last night’s event was hosted by cabaret sensation Shawn Hitchins, and featured show-stopping performances by Sharron Matthews and Cassandra Moore as well as special appearances by Phil V, Belle Jumelle, Johnny B Goode and The Yes Men – plus over 30 works of art from such celebrated artists as Derek Liddington, William Ronald, Nadia Belerique and Troy Brooks. And, of course, the evening was full of surprises, including the sexiest photo booth ever courtesy of acclaimed illustrator Maurice Vellekoop.
We want to thank everyone who helped make the night such a success, especially BMO Financial Group, who returned this year as our presenting sponsor, as well as local businesses Akasha Art Projects and Woody’s for lending major support as well as all our other sponsors, donors, artists, and volunteers.
The ARTATTACK! Catalogue and linked Donor Directory, will remain on our website (buddiesinbadtimes.com/art-attack) to thank the donors, artists, and everyone who helped make ARTATTACK! possible.
