Driftwood Theatre Group is excited to announce its upcoming 20th anniversary season, celebrating two decades of The Bard’s Bus Tour and William Shakespeare’s 450th year with an ambitious season of theatre, events and programs.
“Driftwood has thrived for 20 years due in large part to the family of professionals, volunteers and supporters who make our work possible,” says Artistic Director D. Jeremy Smith. “And so our 20th season puts the spotlight on family, both literal and metaphorical, as we seek to understand the bonds which hold us together, the responsibility we owe to those we love (and love to hate), and the legacies we strive to pass on to our future generations.”
The company’s 20th season is anchored by The Bard’s Bus Tour production of William Shakespeare’s masterpiece The Tempest and a concert-style Food of Love, celebrating the music of Driftwood composed by Tom Lillington and Kevin Fox. Driftwood Theatre continues its work in new play development with a workshop reading of Brad Lepp’s The Long Game and the annual Trafalgar 24 festival of 24-hour play creation. To celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday, the company will present no less than all 37 of the Bard’s plays in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged). The season is rounded out by the Creative Roots Theatre Training Intensive for Young Actors, immersing young actors into the Driftwood’s particular blend of text-based, a cappella musical and movement-based theatre.
