Small Elephant Co-Op is proud to present the Canadian premiere of Laws of Motion by Ashlin Halfnight (Second Life, 2012 O’Neill Playwright’s Conference Finalist) and directed by Dora award winner Christopher Stanton. The lives of eleven people are forever changed when the domino effect of one tragic incident touches each of them in surprisingly different ways. Laws of Motion runs March 1st to 15th at Jam Factory Co. above the Merchants of Green Coffee.
The lives of eleven people are forever changed when the domino effect of one tragic incident touches each of them in surprisingly different ways. This is a ride that doesn’t stop. The New York Times says, “Mr. Halfnight has a gift for punchy, coarse dialogue; an interest in bittersweet detail; and an ear for the inarticulate angst of young people stuck in limbo.” NYTheatre.com says “This is a very wise, very compassionate, and unexpectedly, joltingly profound play. “
Laws of Motion is Small Elephant Co-op's inaugural show, produced by Dani Kind (L.A. Complex, Cracked) and Kate Zeigler (Flashpoint). Starring Carlos Diaz (Murdoch Mysteries, Rookie Blue), Caitlin Driscoll (Firebrand Theatre, Eurydice), Jeff Irving (Eigengrau), Peter Pasyk (Model, Record; Official TIFF Selections), David Tompa (Flashpoint), Ewa Wolniczek (The Frenzy of Queen Maeve), Laws of Motion also features an award-winning design team with Lindsay Anne Black (Pauline McGibbon Award, 4 time Dora Award nominee) Raha Javanfar (Der Freischutz, Miss Caledonia), and Lyon Smith (His Greatness, Final Savage Land).
“This is a group of very talented performers we don't get to see often enough.” says director Christopher Stanton, “The playwright, Ashlin Halfnight, is a Toronto ex-pat living in New York who's work is really electric, but whose name few of us have heard. So for me, I'm excited to be part of bringing these vital and unique voices to light on the Toronto stage.”
Think of the way a smile feels as it spreads across your face, the way a knowing remark hits you in the chest, the way a tear can heal a wound we forgot we had. The laws of motion insist that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction... what will yours be?
