What happens when you combine gangster rap, prescription drugs, and ukuleles? You get the hilarious vaudeville act: Legoland, created by Atomic Vaudeville’s Jacob Richmond.
In 2011, Atomic Vaudeville threw Toronto into a frenzy with our sold-out run of Ride the Cyclone. Off the heels of its success comes the prequel: Legoland. Penny and Ezra, the infamous Lamb siblings, extradited to Canada after a brutal attack on one of America’s most beloved pop stars, give a presentation of their harrowing journey to their social worker, and you the audience. It’s the official story straight from the “Gruesome Twosome,” Canada’s youngest drug cartel. In Atomic Vaudeville’s famed contemporary vaudeville style, the story is told using ukulele, puppets, multi-media and gangster rap, “it’s manic fun, wickedly performed...” (NOW Magazine).
Jacob started Legoland as a university studies project back in 2004. Since then, the show has traveled across North America receiving awards for “Best New Play”, “Best Actress” , “Critics Choice” and “Festival Favorite”. Much like Ride the Cyclone, Legoland has been praised by critics across the county: “This is top-drawer theatre: sharp, crisp and bristling with naughty ideas” (Time-Colonist); “With a smirking deadpan worthy of Kafka, Amitai Marmorstein and Celine Stubel deliver a true gift...” (Globe and Mail).
Artistic Director Andy McKim can’t wait to have Atomic Vaudeville back at TPM. “Every once in a while one gets to see a theatre show that totally delights you in every way, like Ride The Cyclone. Now we will get to see another show that is just as inventive, irreverent, form busting and funny. Legoland is a triumph of Jacob Richmond at his best, paired with two spellbindingly sensational performances from Celine Stubel and Amitai Marmorstein."
