March 11, 2013 After nearly two weeks of sold-out houses and critical and audience acclaim, Small Elephant Co-Op is thrilled to extend their run of Laws of Motion at the Jam Factory Co. for an additional SEVEN PERFORMANCES.
Laws of Motion must close on March 23rd.
Their Canadian premiere of Laws of Motion, written by Ashlin Halfnight (Second Life, 2012 O’Neill Playwright’s Conference Finalist) and directed by Dora award winner Christopher Stanton has touched audience goers and critics alike
"Mostly I’m just floored. I want to see this show again…Laws of Motion ... is a perfect fusion of cast, director, script and venue…this company doesn’t just succeed, they hit it out of the park." – Mooney on Theatre
"Watching Laws of Motion is like watching the best season of your favourite TV show in a live and compact 90 minute format. It leans back with a perfectly paced wind-up so it can lovingly sucker-punch you in the heart…My only regret with this show is that I don’t have time to go see it again" - Nancy Kenny Blog Post
The real accomplishment is how the off-stage players—director Christopher Stanton, lighting designer Sandra Marcroft, sound designer Lyon Smith, and set designer Lindsay Anne Black—transformed the small room into a haunting subway platform. – Carly Maga, GridTO
“We have built something that can’t simply be replicated, Ashlin’s writing is deeply affecting our audience. Chris Stanton and the designers have created a real experience within this found space, and our incredible cast is fired up and available - we are truly charmed to extend this production until March 23rd!” - Producers Dani Kind and Kate Ziegler
Set in New York City, the lives of eleven people are forever changed when the domino effect of one tragic incident touches each of them in surprisingly different ways. This is a ride that doesn’t stop. The New York Times says, “Mr. Halfnight has a gift for punchy, coarse dialogue; an interest in bittersweet detail; and an ear for the inarticulate angst of young people stuck in limbo.” NYTheatre.com says “This is a very wise, very compassionate, and unexpectedly, joltingly profound play. “Think of the way a smile feels as it spreads across your face, the way a knowing remark hits you in the chest, the way a tear can heal a wound we forgot we had. The laws of motion insist that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction... what will yours be?
Laws of Motion is Small Elephant Co-op's inaugural show, produced by Dani Kind (L.A. Complex, Cracked) and Kate Zeigler (Flashpoint). Starring Carlos Diaz (Murdoch Mysteries, Rookie Blue), Caitlin Driscoll (Firebrand Theatre, Eurydice), Jeff Irving (Eigengrau), Peter Pasyk (Model, Record; Official TIFF Selections), David Tompa (Flashpoint), Ewa Wolniczek ("The Frenzy of Queen Maeve”), Law of Motion also features an award-winning design team with Lindsay Anne Black, Sandra Marcroft, and Lyon Smith.
Small Elephant is also pleased to introduce the "See More Theatre Project" - an attempt to bridge the gap between the well-known theatre companies and the smaller companies such as Small Elephant Co-Op. Audience members who bring a ticket stub from a show from the last two months will get $5 off their ticket at the door for Tues-Thursday shows.
