This weekend, catch the Canadian Opera Company's
co-production of Wagner's Parsifal when it hits big screens across the world as part of the Metropolitan Opera's Live in HD Season. The New York production which recently opened to rave reviews will be seen live in Toronto as part of a future COC season.
Parsifal's stage director François Girard and costume designer Michael Levine share a fabled history with the COC, having garnered huge acclaim and many awards for their ground-breaking productions of Oedipus Rex with Symphony of Psalms (1997 and 2002) and 2005's Siegfried. The latter was remounted in 2006 as part of the COC's complete Ring Cycle, the entirety of which was designed by Levine who was also director for the cycle's opening opera, Das Rheingold. Their past work with the COC provided the jumping off point for their collaboration on Parsifal – a COC co-production with Metropolitan Opera and Opéra national de Lyon.
