Stars And Hearts is pleased to present a limited engagement of Jayson McDonald’s award-winning solo piece Underbelly, at The Arts Project April 10-12, 2013.
From the creator of Giant Invisible Robot and The Boneyard Man comes a feverish foray into the mind and spirit of an artist forged at the dawn of The Atomic Age, at constant odds with a society that seemingly has no place for him.
Inspired by the life and works of William S. Burroughs and The Beats (Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg), this spoken-word piece trips across decades of social and literary rebellion. Underbelly is a lightning-paced examination of expression, morality and personal evolution.
Underbelly premiered at The London Fringe Festival in 2011 (and received that year’s Brickenden Awards for Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Original Script) and in the following year was performed at the Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Edmonton Fringe Festivals (where it received the Artists’ Choice Award) and the Vancouver Fringe Festival (where it was the recipient of The Georgia Straight Critics’ Choice Award and The Cultchivating The Fringe Award).
This production of Underbelly is in anticipation of the show’s debut in Victoria B.C. at Intrepid Theatre’s UNO Festival of Solo Performance in May. The production will have a two week run at The Cultch in Vancouver in early 2014.
