Toronto, ON (March 26, 2013)– Theatre is a window into life and the view has never been as clear as it is with Germany’s She She Pop & Their Fathers: Testament, coming to World Stage April 17-20, 2013. The production takes a tranche from Shakespeare’s King Lear and stages it between the performers of She She Pop and their real life fathers.
The conversations many try to avoid are laid bare in this work and their stark authenticity hits home hard. Examining equilibrium between generations and the often unspoken agreements made about the future, She She Pop & Their Fathers: Testament confronts love, money, power and memory from the perspectives of different branches on the same family trees.
World Stage artistic director Tina Rasmussen comments: “When you see ordinary people on stage, there is a vulnerability and accessibility that help personalize the subject matter. It’s fresh, it’s funny, it’s playful, it’s moving and it’s Shakespeare; it’s genius.”
Hot on the heels of the sold out and critically acclaimed LEAR, this production is one of three contemporary Shakespeare works in this year’s World Stage season. She She Pop & Their Fathers: Testament has been touring the world and garnering rave reviews. This production run marks the first time the company has come to Toronto.
