We are witness to a seething rage…
Le 20 novembre was written with a sense of urgency, in the wake of a mass shooting in Germany in 2006. In creating this dramatic monologue, playwright Lars Nóren drew on the diary of the young man who committed this irreparable act. Their words meet and mingle to reveal a world that is colder and more ruthless than ever, especially for those who don’t fit in, who are shunned, excluded, and rejected as failures—to the point where some of them are driven to extreme measures.
Brigitte Haentjens, never one to settle for easy answers, complacency or convention, directs this powerful production. Armed with the subversive talent of Christian Lapointe, she investigates the nature of individuals and the situations they face. Here the anti-hero is both perpetrator and victim; though he may be guilty in the eyes of the law, he is also the judge of our own failures and indifference.
What is our responsibility in the face of such horror?
