Toronto, ON (April 11, 2013) – The world premiere of what we are saying from Toronto-based choreographer Ame Henderson/Public Recordings resounds at World Stage May 22-25. Artists working in sound, visual arts, theatre and dance join forces to create an acoustic arena that blurs the line between performers and audience members.
Varying its specific content on a nightly basis to complement changing audiences, the work asks: What can we say about our future and how do we say it together? Language and movement are the vehicles used to explore the central questions of what we are saying. Building on findings from previous Public Recordings projects, relay and 300 TAPES, responses to uncertainty, potential danger and opportunity promptthe audience to consider the radical possibility of a “leaderless togetherness”.
In the spirit of collaborative experimentation, participating artists have congregated on Toronto Island, at Artscape’s Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts, working through the intricacies of sound and design in preparation for the production’s run. Following the world premiere at World Stage, what we are saying will travel to Montreal for Festival TransAmériques.
World Stage artistic director Tina Rasmussen comments: “What is really different about Ame’s approach is that she looks at choreography as a social experiment. We’re dealing with everyone’s own individuality and how we come together as a group – how do we negotiate that?”
