“To be called an ugly name may have the same effect as a pin-scratch in the lung. They have called me an enemy of the people, so an enemy of the people let me be!”
When Dr. Thomas Stockmann discovers infusoria in the local water supply, he knows the health of his home town and all its visitors are at risk. However, to acknowledge there is a problem will destroy the local economy which doesn’t sit well with the tax-payers. With Peter Stockmann, the town’s mayor and Thomas’ brother, leading the mob against Dr. Stockmann, will he be able to throw off the shackles of being an enemy of the people?
Bound to spark conversation, and perhaps written as a response to the backlash Ibsen received for Ghosts, this production of An Enemy of the People, shows one man in conflict with his community. Don’t miss your opportunity to hear a staged reading of this inconvenient truth. Also, don’t forget to check out Royal Porcupine Productions’ staging of St. Francis Preaches to the Birds by David Ives at this year’s Toronto Fringe Festival coming in July!
