OTTAWA, April 25, 2013 – The National Arts Centre Foundation is thrilled to thank CIBC for its $1M in support of superb programming for young audiences, young artist training and performing arts education in Canadian classrooms. CIBC announced today that it would extend its commitment as Presenting Sponsor of the National Arts Centre Gala through to 2016, which will result in a total of $1M over five years dedicated to the National Youth and Education Trust. CIBC made the announcement today recognizing the importance of the Ottawa community as part of the bank’s Annual General Meeting of Shareholders held in Ottawa on April 25.
“We are extremely grateful to CIBC making this generous contribution to support programming that encourages creativity and instills a life-long love of the performing arts in young people across Canada,” said Jayne Watson, CEO of the NAC Foundation.
"We are proud to support the NAC and the work it does nurturing and developing the creativity of young people across Canada and the educators and artists who challenge and encourage them,” said Gerry McCaughey, President and CEO of CIBC.
“It was a privilege to be part of the NAC Institute for Orchestral Studies. Performing side-by-side with professional musicians, touring with the orchestra, and learning from renowned conductors is a unique experience in Canada,” said Emily Westell, young violinist who performed at CIBC’s reception. “The opportunity to observe the workings of a professional orchestra through the mentorship of the NAC Orchestra, and particularly the ability to learn great repertoire directly from Pinchas Zukerman, was an incredible experience and contributed significantly to my development as a musician and in my transition from a student to a professional. I am extremely grateful for the support of the NAC and CIBC in making this training experience possible for me and all the other musicians who have benefited from these programs.”
The NAC’s National Youth and Education Trust is the primary resource for youth and education funding at the National Arts Centre. Proceeds raised from the NAC Gala presented by CIBC support the Trust which funds superb programming for young audiences, develops the world’s best young artists and supports performing arts education in Canadian classrooms.
