After successful runs of Rebecca Gilman’s ‘The Glory of Living’ and Richard N. Nash’s ‘Echoes’, directors, respectively, Sophie Ann Rooney and Angela Besharah ((Sterling Studio Theatre Collective) launch the ONE ACT FESTIVAL at Sterling Studio Theatre. They are joined by critically- acclaimed directors Bruce Pitkin (La Casa de Bernada Alba –Toronto Fringe Festival) and David Tompa (Eigengrau -Red One).
They are flanked by seasoned Theatre & Film/Television actors- Alana Hawley (Love's Labour's Lost -Stratford Shakespeare Festival) Robert Fulton (Waterfront - The Blessing, Summerworks Toronto) Heather Marie Annis (Morro of the Morro and Jasp series, U.N.I.T. Productions) Kyle Labine (Road to Avonlea, Samurai Girl) Stephanie Belding (Imprints, Theatre Gargantua -Factory Theatre) Ashley Bryant (Brothers Karamozov -Wordsmith Theatre) Candice Mausner (The Glory of Living-Sterling Studio Theatre) Drew Nelson (Danny and the Deep Blue Sea-Sterling Studio Theatre/Flashpoint) Caroline Millen (Botched –Toronto Fringe Festival) Taylor Whittaker (from the band UKAE) Mikey Lipka (The Glory of Living –Sterling Studio Theatre) Zerha Leverman (Orpheus Descending-Director David Ferry) Colin Edwards (People4Change –TheThem Production) Lisa Aitken (Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Ottawa Chamber Theatre) Alison Brooks (Toyer, Sugar Company –Lower Ossington Theatre) and, as their stage debut, Jerritt Boyce (Flashpoint) Clayton Gray (24hr Rental) in performances that will take audiences on an artistic journey.
Playwrights Carolyn Bennett (The Short List, Summerworks –Factory Theatre) and Adam Hunter Collier (Danforth – Black Tea Theatre) won the Sterling Studio Theatre One Act’s writing contest, held in early March. Selected by SSTC & audience vote, their works join Canadian Playwright-Diane Flacks, famous American playwright- Tennessee Williams, Russian legend-Anton Chekhov and Screenwriter-Lewis J Carlino.
Each week has a different duo paired-up.

Synopses
Nine Months is Just an Arbitrary Number by Adam Hunter Collier (Director David Tompa): A young woman decides to raise a baby in a jar, because it’s more practical in a rough economy. She delays telling her partner though, and begins to doubt herself as a good mom.
Hitler’s Ass by Carolyn Bennett (Director Bruce Pitkin): Two rogue researchers conduct the ultimate clinical drug trial on two desperate ravers. When will the party stop?
The Bear by Anton Chekhov (Director Angela Besharah): Elena, cared for by her servant Luka, is faithfully mourning the death of her philandering husband seven months ago and has not left the house. Grigory is owed a large sum of money by her late husband and arrives to collect.
Snowangel by Lewis J Carlino (Director Sophie Ann Rooney): A john named John visits Connie, a call-girl, seeking a night of lost love and true connection.
Interior: Panic by Tennessee Williams (Director Sophie Ann Rooney): This precursor to ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ delves into the panicked world of Blanche Dubois.
By a Thread by Diana Flacks (Director Angela Besharah): This Dora nominated one act explores a day in the life of Rose - a passionate, paranoid, performance artist. A letter arrives, marking the visit of an unwanted guest, leaving Rose creatively stumped and on the verge of a mental breakdown. An avid astral projector, Rose must learn how to stay in her body in order to conquer her past and complete her final masterpiece
