The 4th Line Theatre’s upcoming summer season has two remarkable productions based on Canadian history.
The Winslows of Derryvore features a cast of 60, horses, epic battles, music, storytelling, song and magic of 17th century Ireland. The story is set at the time in Ireland’s history when England began its colonization, forcing the Irish clans from their homelands. The Irish families of Derryvore, in County Fermanagh, forced from their land and defeated in battle, fled Ireland for Canada, eventually settling in Peterborough and the surrounding region.
Inspired by the true life story of Elijah McCoy, The Real McCoy, explores the complex and compelling life of this extraordinary inventor, born in Canada to runaway slaves, who became a leading expert in the field of thermo-dynamics and whose invention of the self-lubricating cup revolutionized steam engine travel. With a triumphant career that included an amazing 57 patents, ‘The Real McCoy’ became an expression of authenticity despite being inspired by a man whose life was marred by tragedy.
For 22 years 4th Line Theatre has been bringing history to life on the outdoor barnyard and meadow stages of a picturesque 5th generation farm in Millbrook Ontario. Committed to preserving and promoting our Canadian cultural heritage, we present original, regional stories with national echoes.
