Toronto Fringe is pleased to announce that Jessica Moss has been awarded the Ed Mirvish Award for Entrepreneurship for her Fringe 2013 hit Polly Polly. This $2,500 award, created by David Mirvish in honour of his father, recognizes the entrepreneurship of independent theatre artists in our city. The Ed Mirvish Award is claimed by the mainstage Fringe company that sells the highest proportion of its available seats.
Jessica Moss’ Polly Polly was a must-see before the Fringe Festival even opened, generating buzz thanks to Moss gracing the cover of Now Magazine’s Fringe Festival edition. The buzz continued throughout the festival, leading to many sold-out houses, excellent reviews and an entire run that sold at 98.6% capacity. Polly Polly is currently running as part of the Best of Fringe at the Toronto Centre for the Arts.
Jessica Moss is an artist Toronto Fringe is proud to support – her solo-show about the trials of online dating (Modern Love) was a hit at the 2012 Next Stage Theatre Festival and she has been involved in many other Fringe shows, including Tick (2012 Fringe Festival) and Swoon (2011 Fringe Festival). Moss’ recent acting credits include: Was Spring (Tarragon Theatre), Tout Comme Elle (Necessary Angel/Luminato) and The Clockmaker (Sudbury Theatre Centre).
Mirvish Productions knows the power of the Fringe, having remounted three particularly famous productions over the past 15 years – The Drowsy Chaperone, ‘da Kink in My Hair and My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding. This award is a celebration of the hard work, innovation and creativity that goes into making a Fringe show a success.
Polly Polly has one remaining show at Best of Fringe on July 31st at 9pm. To buy tickets to Polly Polly, visit http://www.tocentre.com/studio/pollypolly or call the Toronto Centre for the Arts at (416) 250-3708.
