ASSISTANT BOX OFFICE MANAGER

Buddies in Bad Times Theatre is accepting applications for the entry level position of: Assistant Box Office/Front of the House Manager. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who wants to join the team at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Canada’s Home for Queer Culture. Reporting to the Box Office/Front of House Manager , the Assistant Box Office/Front of House Manager will be responsible for managing box office staff, order processing and overseeing general box office operations at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
•Promote high standards of customer service
•Process ticket orders
•Lead, train and supervise Ticket Agents
•Inform and uphold Box Office policy in alignment with organizational standards
•Manage and resolve medium level customer service concerns
•Support the Box Office Manager in the preparation of reports and schedules, as required
•Supervise day to day Box Office operations
•Oversee and schedule the theatres volunteer program
•Assists with financial reconciliations and cash management
•Provide support and show specific information to all patrons in a timely and professional manner
•Ability to deal with customers in a positive manner
•Act as duty manager in the absence of the Box Office/Front of House Manager
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
•Equivalent work experience and appreciation for the Arts
•Experience on the Arts Management Theatre Manager software an asset but not essential
•Cash management experience required
•Must be dependable, punctual, team player
•Enthusiastic, ambitious and self-motivated
•Excellent management and organizational skills
•Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
•Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
•Will be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays
•Adept with PCs with Windows OS and MS Word and MS Excel software
•Is queer positive and is respectful of difference
•Must be able to multitask and work in a fast paced, high stress environment

BUDDIES IN BAD TIMES THEATRE IS SEEKING NEW MEMBERS FOR OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND BOARD FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
Buddies in Bad Times Theatre invites applications to serve on our Board of Directors and/or our Board Fundraising Committee.
Broadly speaking, the Board is charged with ensuring that Buddies in Bad Times Theatre is a thriving vital theatre company, both in its internal operations, and external position and profile in the broader community. Aside from its legal and fiduciary responsibilities, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre’s board of director’s mission is as follows: to support the company’s mandate and activities through active involvement, and through the provision of professional expertise; to promote the theatre’s interests by nurturing relationships on its behalf, and bringing these interested parties and their resources to the theatre; and to ensure the company’s long-term health by practising good governance and oversight.
The board of directors is made up of committed members of the community who reflect all aspects of its diversity. Board members will have a demonstrated interest in the Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, leadership potential and/or specific skills/knowledge/experience that would be of benefit to the theatre.
At this time we are particularly looking for a lawyer to sit on the board and individuals with fundraising experience.

RHUBARB FESTIVAL INTERNS

Buddies in Bad Times Theatre is now accepting applications for four volunteer intern positions for the 35th Rhubarb Festival. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event production, and to gain insight into the creative processes of artists working in performance, while receiving invaluable mentorship in the areas of curation, producing and arts administration. Reporting to the Festival Director, interns contribute to the general administration and community development initiatives of the festival. All positions actively participate in the festival planning, execution and final assessment processes.
POSITIONS
Administrative / Documentation Intern
(August-March, approximately 8hrs per week, with increased hours in February)
•Assist with application process and day-to-day administrative duties (mailings, filing, email correspondence) under direction of the Festival Director
•Oversee submission database and artist contact list
•Assist in creation of the festival programming document
•Document and archive festival activities including, but not limited to: artist meeting, community dinners, talks and performances
•Assist with compiling data for final reporting
•Attend rehearsals and meetings as required
Community Partnerships/ Outreach Intern
(August-March, approximately 8hrs per week, with increased hours in February)
•Assist the Festival Director with planning and correspondence related to community partnerships (i.e. co-presentations, collaborations with other arts organizations, etc.)
•Assist with planning and execution of artist and volunteer meetings/special events
•Assist in creation of the festival programming document
•Liaise with artists, speakers, and workshop participants as required
•Attend rehearsals and meetings as required
Social Media Intern
(August-March, approximately 8hrs per week, with increased hours in February)
•Develop and execute plan for the Buddies in Bad Times/ Rhubarb blog, Facebook page and Twitter feed in consultation with the Festival Director and Communications Manager
•Coordinate and edit content of the Rhubarb Festival blog
•Liaise with artists, speakers, and workshop participants as required
•Contribute content for the Rhubarb Festival blog
•Assist with compiling data for final reporting
•Attend rehearsals and meetings as required
Research Intern
(August-March, approximately 8 hrs per week, with increased hours in February)
•Conduct research related to the programming and curatorial focuses for the 35th Rhubarb Festival
•Organize and scan materials from past Rhubarb Festivals into a form that can be shared and accessed by artists, students and the general public
•Work with the Administrative/ Documentation Intern and Buddies staff to maintain a comprehensive Archive of the 2014 Festival
•Contribute content for the Rhubarb Festival blog
•Attend rehearsals and meetings as required
In addition to mentorship, interns receive a full-access Artist Pass to Rhubarb 2014.
QUALIFICATIONS
•Interest in performance creation and producing, artistic development, and festival curation
•Familiarity with the activities and past programming of Buddies in Bad Times Theatre and The Rhubarb Festival
•Demonstrated interest in contemporary performance
•Knowledgeable of performance history and the local performance community
•Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
•Detail oriented, organized, flexible and able to work well under pressure
•Able to work independently and as part of a team
•Able to meet deadlines
•Proficient with MS Word, MS Excel and a variety of social media platforms
•Previous experience with office administration, theatre production and/or performance creation is preferred
•Experience with video editing, web design and/or graphic design programmes are assets

Established in 1979, the Rhubarb Festival is produced by Buddies in Bad Times Theatre and is Canada’s longest-running festival of new performance offering Toronto fresh, live encounters with contemporary theatre, performance art, dance and music. For over three decades, Rhubarb has encouraged established artists to take new risks and emerging artists to explore the possibilities of performance in a supportive space. Every year, hundreds of local and international artists descend on the Buddies neighbourhood to share new ideas in performance creation with adventure-loving audiences.

SECURITY STAFF
Buddies in Bad Times is currently looking for part-time, licensed Security Staff for our late night and club events. The ideal candidate has experience working in a high traffic environment and is sensitive to the needs of our queer community.
