On the verge of being evicted from his trailer, Johnny “Rooster” Byron, the Pied Piper of Wiltshire County and wreck of a man, makes his last stand regaling friends and foes with tall tales and past glories on St. George’s Day. This expansive, shocking play was the toast of both London and Broadway when it premiered in 2009 and 2011, respectively.
Previously featured plays in the Reading Series have included Suzan-Lori Parks’s Topdog/Underdog, Caryl Churchill’s Serious Money and the Jay Turvey/Paul Sportelli musical Maria Severa, all of which have eventually been presented as full productions at The Shaw. The Mountaintop will make its Shaw Festival premiere during the 2014 season.
