This year Mixed Company Theatre is celebrating its 30th anniversary! We would like to commemorate all of the various communities with whom we have collaboratively created with, utilizing art as a tool for social change. Without the community’s generosity and willingness to share their stories, MCT would not be able to develop this essential art form!
Check out our upcoming shows for our 2013/2014 Season:
Fall 2013 - Youth 15-24
Touring Schools, Youth Shelters & Vocational Centres
This fall MCT is launching a new workshop series which will tour to schools, vocational centres and youth shelters. Through a blend of theatrical exercises and hands on learning, these unique workshops will help youth acquire the necessary pre-employment skills to enter into the job market.
Nov 4th-Nov 22nd 2013 Touring Senior Homes & Centres
Nov 26th-Dec 1st @ Tarragon Extra Space
Mixed Company Theatre creates programming that offers seniors an artistic venue to share their stories, concerns, and offers a safe space to explore, play, and perform. This past year MCT has created Life Gets in the Way, a production that highlighted the stories and concerns of aging here in Toronto, we are currently developing a second production Elder Voices. MCT will collaborate with senior artists and community members to develop a play which explores the Bette Davis quote, “Getting old ain’t for Sissies.”
April 7th-May 2nd 2013 - Schools - Grades 6-12
Returning for its 5th run, the popular anti-bullying play SHOWDOWN 2.0 returns to schools this season, in both French and English. This interactive, Forum Theatre performance tackles the issue of bullying in a hyper-connected, ever-changing technological landscape. Developed in consultation with High school students, SHOWDOWN 2.0 is a hard-hitting and realistic portrayal of bullying, exploring how technology is influencing the actions and outcomes of violence and harassment.
Workshops
Custom Workshops for Schools - Ongoing
Students, Parents, Teachers
Mixed Company Theatre’s made-to-order workshops are an ideal, safe way to bring together all of the parties affected by a particular issue--Bullying, diversity, mental health, and more! Our trained facilitators will work with school leaders to objectively analyze the challenge and create a fun, interactive workshop that encourages contributions from everyone involved. During the workshop, participants will work together, with the facilitator’s guidance, to understand all of the perspectives and create a positive solution.
Projects in Development
Emerging Artist Program - Project Boomerang - Workshop Performance April 2014
Project Boomerang will use an artistic lens to dissect the issues facing generation Y’s ability to succeed, investigating the realities post-graduation: job opportunities, student debt and the high cost of living in comparison with previous generation’s opportunities. We will gather stories, anecdotes, and artistic creations in order to reflect the many voices of the community on these issues.
Help support Mixed Company Theatre to continue to bring engaging, and educational programming throughout Ontario’s communities & schools. Every donation makes a difference.
