This Halloween Theatre Lab joins forces with the historic Campbell House Museum to share their newest piece You Can Sleep When You're Dead. This 75 minute interactive theatrical experience invites the public to explore Campbell House while in its darkest state. What happens when a person suddenly passes away with unresolved issues so powerful that they do not fully crossover to the other-side? They take on a new form and remain in our material plane of existence.
From October 24th to the 31st, Campbell House will be host to the tortured spirits unable pass on. Incredible Canadian writers and the Theatre Lab creative team execute a truly unique site-specific theatrical experience, constructing a house of dark and unresolved stories. Each story is set in a different era, spanning the various floor and rooms of the house. A live heart is ripped from a chest-while you extend your sympathies to a grieving family at a wake. Bear witness to a brutal strangling in the dining room, while in the kitchen below a man barters his life with the cook... hoping for tasty results. A secret society invites you to join them-will you accept? A man of god fights to save an innocent soul from demonic possession on the second floor. Ghosts roam the home and stalk those who dare to explore their domain.
"We wanted to take our company, and the audience out of their respective comfort zones. We are pushing the boundaries of 'good taste' with this show - but then we haven't ever really been interested in safe,” says co-artistic director Michael Orlando, with other co-artistic director Omar Hady adding, "There isn't a better time of year to get away with taking big risks and being the furthest thing from polite.”
Theatre Lab dares Torontonians to enter the historic Campbell House when the spirit veil is thinnest, the week of All Hallow's Eve, because - You Can Sleep When You're Dead.
Directed by Tom Arthur Davis, Omar Hady, Michael Orlando with original writing by Glyn Bowerman, David Brock, Omar Hady, Graham Isador and Kat Sandler and musical direction by Emilyn Stam. In addition, featured performers Karin Randoja (Independent Aunties, Dora-nominated actor/director) and Michael Luckett (star of new show BITTEN, on American Sci-Fi Network) round out the 40+ member creative team.
