Toronto, ON (January 27, 2014) –MOTIONLIVE proudly presents ANEEMAH’S SPOT at the TD Then & Now Festival. Written by Motion, and directed by Charles Officer, the award-winning play stars Amanda Parris and Shomari Downer, and features a stylistic sound-scape by DJ L'Oqenz that pulsates like the city that birthed it. Presented as part of B.A.N.D (Black Artists in Dialogue’s) nationally curated festival, ANEEMAH’S SPOT joins an annual cross-Canadian showcase of arts and culture. ANEEMAH’S SPOT plays the Living Arts Centre on February 8th in Mississauga, followed by a feature at 918 Bathurst in Toronto, February 14th through February 16th, 2014.
ANEEMAH’S SPOT is a riveting dramatic duet set in the MegaCity. The tale is a stealthy mix of dialogue, rhyme and spoken word that follows two childhood friends as they struggle to cope with the fall out of a tragedy. The funeral of "G" brings Aneemah and Wan together to mourn and share their histories, as they are forced to let go of the past and choose how they will navigate life from this moment on.
On the heels of its successful Summerworks run, ANEEMAH’S SPOT 2014 brings together an interdisciplinary collective of collaborators, pairing award-winning emcee/poet/playwright Motion
with acclaimed director Charles Officer. The production is sound-designed by music director DJ L’Oqenz with visual-scape provided by production designer Hanna Puley. Stage Manager Jiv Parasram and producer Byron Abalos join the creative team, which includes dramaturge Mel Hague. ANEEMAH’S SPOT is co-sponsored by Obsidian Theatre.
“It’s a theatrical mix of dialogue, rhyme and spoken word that draws on the heart’s strings revealing issues about violence, death, and loyalty.” URBANOLOGY
“A play about gun violence in Toronto is now more than timely. But Aneemah’s Spot, produced by MotionLive and Cric Crac Collective for this year’s SummerWorks festival, elevates the discussion of this hot button issue beyond mere polemics. Through the eyes of two vivid characters, it looks at the complicated ways that art and love stay afloat in the wake of tragedy.” MOONEY ON THEATRE
