This new international collaboration lead by Dora award-winning director Soheil Parsa (The Lesson, 2012) will engage the audience in a hypnotic, hard-hitting and at times irreverent look at one of life's most fundamental and elusive themes.
On an empty stage defined only by light and sound, three dancers and two actors enact stories that examine how forgiveness affects our lives, from the historical conflicts between civilizations to the simple personal tragedies that touch the essence of the human experience.
Modern Times partners with Denmark's choreographic phenomenon Don*Gnu (winner 2013 Aarhus Audience Award) to create a potent and poetic theatre piece, distinguished by Modern Times' signature visual imagery. The international collaboration also includes the creative participation of Toronto's own Dreamwalker Dance Productions as well as Denmark’s incubator theatre, Laboratoriet.
"Forgiveness is a complex, huge and amorphous subject for the theatre,” says director Parsa, recipient of the Ontario Government’s 2013 Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal. "I believe that forgiveness matters profoundly and urgently in our time, but as artists we have no intention to prescribe or preach to anyone. We want to explore forgiveness with frankness and without illusion."
Forgiveness is a value, a virtue, a state of being, a process and a choice that touches all of us profoundly. Whether it be someone taking our seat on the subway or a terrible betrayal that changes life irrevocably, the ability to understand the redeeming potential and (potential) contradictions of forgiveness makes us who we are. Experience Forgiveness in 2014 with Modern Times.
