In the history of television, only 2 shows have won the Emmy for best Comedy in their first 5 years on the air. Jeff Greenberg cast them both – Frasier and Modern Family.
WORKSHOP 2:
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19th
1:00 PM
'Making it in LA' with Ayumi Iizuka
Lecture and Q&A (SEATING IS LIMITED)
Have you considered moving to LA to pursue your acting career, but didn't know where to start and what to expect once you get down there? This lecture will discuss the ins and outs of moving to LA as a professional actor. It will dispel the myths about LA and provide useful information about how to get started in Hollywood.
Topics to be covered:
•Green Card vs 01 Visa
•Agents and Managers
•Is pilot season really the best time to come down?
•Show business is show business…how different can it be in LA?
•Bring general questions or book a private one-‐on-‐one to discuss your personal situation.
Ayumi is a former faculty member at The Second City in Toronto and Hollywood and an alumnus of The Second City National Tour Co. She moved to LA in 2010 and since that time has enjoyed a great deal of success in the business.
Ayumi co-‐owns and operates Connect Studios LA, a casting director workshop studio with over 1400 members (www.connectstudiosla.com). She has participated in over 400 casting director workshops in LA, and has booked roles on all the major networks including: The Middle, The Big Bang Theory, Bones, Mulaney, Criminal Minds, Parenthood, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and many more.
She has learned the ins and outs of working in LA and loves to help fellow Canadians ‘Make it in LA’.
“One of the things I enjoyed the most was her optimism. I’ve had a few friends who have done the LA thing, come back, and bemoaned how difficult it is, how everyone is stepping on each other for work, it’s cutthroat, expensive, and they’ve run out of money in a few months with little to no success and have to move home. Not Ayumi. he’s smart, strong, stubborn and determined. And she’s making it! She hasn’t found instant fame overnight, but she’s achieved the elusive dream: she’s a working actor.” - Holly S.

:: PERFORM WITH PERFORMANCE ::
THE ACTOR'S BOOT CAMP
w/ PAOLA COLETTO & MARC FROST
“You will never meet anyone more present to teach the art of being present. Paola is a guru of comedy and theater. She finds a depth in the work I didn’t even know existed. Working with her feels like taking a submarine into comedy when I had just been floating on the surface the whole time. If she charged a million dollars it wouldn’t be enough. I am completely changed by her, both as an artist and a person.”
– JET EVELETH
Led by Paola Coletto & Marc Frost, founder & instructor of The School for Theatre Creators – Chicago’s professional academy for physical theatre. Paola is one of only 40 people in the world certified in the Lecoq pedagogy by Jacques Lecoq himself.
Starting with the Neutral Mask, this intensive focuses on reconnecting the actor with his body and the body with the space it occupies. Once experienced, this emotional and expressive journey becomes a permanent point of reference for actors of any theatre style.
Join us for this one-of-a-kind game changing workshop that will push you to the limits and re-ignite your excitement on stage and on-camera!

Theatre-makers are like athletes on 'the field of creation' with an equal need for the consistent training and exercising of their tools - body and mind - to become phenomenal 'play'-ers.
* * *
•What is it that makes a show highly engaging and compelling?
•What has an audience sit on the edge of their seats in anticipation, neglecting wrist watch glancing and thoughts of dinner plans?
•Why are sporting events and athletes often more dynamically captivating than theatre and its actors?
One of the greatest misconceptions in theatre training is that actors need to focus on releasing all tension to free themselves to perform. The opposite is actually true. In fact, when an actor’s body isn’t engaged the whole drama becomes deflated and uninteresting, but when an actor has a charged physical engagement and brings its pedestrian presence into a different level of (in)tension, then the stage becomes alive and the audience interested and engaged.
This three-day intensive focuses on reconnecting the actor with his body and the body with the theatre space it occupies while developing each individual on-stage presence through awareness and play, with the final goal of enhancing performance quality and connecting with the audience. Once experienced, this emotional and expressive journey becomes a permanent point of reference for actors of any theater style.
