CAMBRIDGE – Drayton Entertainment is pleased to announce six special guest artists for The Magic of Gilbert & Sullivan in partnership with the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra and in collaboration with the Waterloo Regional Gilbert and Sullivan Society Singers.
The Magic of Gilbert and Sullivan features a veritable hit parade of classics from popular G&S operettas including HMS Pinafore, The Mikado, The Pirates of Penzance, The Gondoliers, and more. This unique concert plays two performances only on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge.
A Gilbert & Sullivan tribute would not be complete without Drayton Entertainment favourite Keith Savage. Savage is well known for his silly comedic style and limber physicality. He has appeared on stages all over North America including three productions on Broadway. His notable performances with Drayton Entertainment include Rooster in Annie and Lumière in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, as well as Reginald Bunthorne and Ko Ko in the popular G&S operettas Patience and The Mikado respectively, and many more.
Renowned leading lady June Crowley will showcase her classically-trained operatic voice with memorable performances of some of the best Gilbert & Sullivan arias. Crowley has appeared on stage with theatre companies and symphony orchestras across Canada. Notable roles include Christine in The Phantom of the Opera in Toronto and Marion in The Music Man with the Stratford Festival. Her work with Drayton Entertainment includes Lily in The Secret Garden, Yum Yum in The Mikado and Hollywood Sings this summer at the Drayton Festival Theatre.
Singer and comedienne Karen K. Edissi is no stranger to the Drayton Entertainment stages having appeared in The Sound of Music, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, among other productions. Edissi has appeared with almost every major theatre company in Canada and has played numerous leading roles with Maine State Musical Theatre in the U.S.
Also featured is Christopher Wilson, who is well versed in the Gilbert & Sullivan catalogue, having performed in The Gondoliers for the Stratford Festival, The Pirates of Penzance for Toronto Operetta Theatre and The Mikado for Drayton Entertainment. He most recently appeared in South Pacific at the Drayton Festival Theatre and Huron Country Playhouse earlier this season.
After appearing in Hollywood Sings this summer at the Drayton Festival Theatre, Brian Belleth brings his considerable vocal talent to this fun-filled concert. Belleth’s stage experience includes Gilbert & Sullivan roles Ralph Rackstraw in H.M.S Pinafore and Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance.
To complete the star-studded line-up, Drayton Entertainment Artistic Director, Alex Mustakas will sing a ditty or two in this special concert. In 2012, after an extended hiatus from the stage, Mustakas delighted audiences as the despicable boss in 9 To 5: The Musical to great acclaim. Last fall, theatregoers of all ages joyfully booed him as the villainous Captain Hook in Peter Pan the panto at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge.
The Victorian-era partnership of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan includes their collaboration of fourteen comic operas between 1871 and 1896. Librettist Gilbert created the “topsy-turvy” worlds for the operas to take place while composer Sullivan wrote the memorable melodies that convey both humour and pathos.
The Magic of Gilbert & Sullivan is on stage for two performances only on Sunday, October 26th at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge. Adult tickets are only $30.00 and youth tickets are $25.00. HST applies to all ticket orders.
Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.dunfieldtheatrecambridge.com, in person at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge Box Office, or by calling (519) 621-8000 or toll free 1-855-DRAYTON (372-9866).
