The theatre event that NOW Magazine calls “A delight” returns to Toronto after sold-out performances. Elizabeth - Darcy: An Adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, is returning to Campbell House for a limited holiday engagement.
Elizabeth Darcy features only two female cast members, Hallie Burt and Kate Werneburg. In Elizabeth Darcy, women really can do and be anything they want (including Mr. Darcy!).
This genderbending version is more than just a sight gag. Elizabeth Darcy remains true to the spirit of Austen’s novel, while playfully exploring the nature of love and gender both now and in 1813, when the novel was first published.
Toronto’s magnificent Regency museum, Campbell House, becomes a third actor in the production as the audience follows the action from room to room. Toronto's oldest historical building from the Town of York provides a timeless setting for this classic tale.
Tom Arthur Davis (awardwinning Mamoud, Birth) returns to direct, and actors Hallie Burt (Queer Bathroom Stories, The Comedy of Errors) and Kate Werneburg (Frankenstein, The Centre of Everything Civilised) reprise their roles.
As Mooney on Theatre says: "These actors are... virtuosos in the making... and you would best get down to The Campbell House Museum to witness a classic revitalized."
