Following the sad news of Philip Seymour Hoffman's passing, Unit 102 has dedicated the rest of their run of Jesus Hopped The 'A' Train to his memory. Without Hoffman, who initially patroned Guirgis to write Jesus Hopped The 'A' Train, Unit 102 would have not had the opportunity to stage it and they want to pay homage through their dedication (source: http://www.thedaysofyore.com/stephen-adly-guirgis/).
Please see Unit 102's official statement on this dedication below.
"It is a very sad day for the acting world. Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of the greats. He was a true patron of the arts who had an undying love for theatre. Without his patronage, Jesus Hopped The ‘A’ Train would never have been written and we certainly would not have had the opportunity to stage this play. His generosity and belief in Guirgis gave power to a literary voice that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. Our intention with this dedication is focus people's attentions on Philip's lesser-known legacy - his contribution to theatrical culture. Unit 102 has always had a great respect for the work coming out of The Lab, the New York based theatre company where Hoffman acted as creative director. His involvement with The Lab has influenced us greatly and given us direction. They are a visionary company and it should be known how intensely involved Hoffman was with their vision. Our hearts go out to his family and friends at this time."
