The Bicycle Opera Project is seeking Canadian operatic compositions for our 2014 summer tour.
About us: The Bicycle Opera Project strives to bring new Canadian music into communities where there is little to no opportunity to hear new Canadian works. The BOP
works to close the distance between audience members and opera singers through engaging performances in intimate spaces. The project's main focus is the performance of Canadian operatic repertoire. This repertoire carries with it an array of contemporary issues relevant to all audiences. Our scenes are sung in English and French ensuring that all Canadians can more readily relate to the material.
What we are looking for: Operatic works of 5 to 30 minutes that can be adapted to our unique ensemble. This can include complete works, one complete scene, or a section that can stand alone and for any combination of: soprano, mezzo, tenor, baritone, piano and two instruments TBA (2013: violin and flute).
Preference will be given to works that utilize baritone and tenor voices and/or include all four voices. Works leaning towards musical theatre are also acceptable.
Composers must be willing to rearrange scores for our unique ensemble. Instruments will be finalized by the end of April and final arrangements will be needed May 31st.
BOP will provide an honorarium to composers for rearranging works.
Submission deadline: April 7th, 2014
Please include:
•Score
•Recording (if no recording is available, please submit recordings of previous compositions)
•A brief statement of interest is optional
•Feel free to submit more than one work
Please send submissions to bicycleopera@gmail.com Questions welcome.
See bicycleopera.ca to learn more about the project.
