This spring, Opera Atelier returns to the Royal Opera House in Versailles with a landmark production of Persée and we need your help. Lully’s Persée inaugurated the theatre in 1770 during the wedding celebrations of the future King Louis XVI to Marie Antoinette, and it has not been on stage there since.
Opera Atelier is pleased to bring this opera back to one of the most beautiful theatres in the world.
Help us return this jewel of French Baroque opera to its birthplace.
This tour brings Canadian artists to the world stage, furthering Opera Atelier’s – and Canada’s – reputation as the world’s leading expert in historically informed opera productions. Your donation directly supports Opera Atelier’s tour to Versailles. Currently we have raised 83% of the total cost. Help us reach the final 17%! A Canadian tax receipt will be mailed for all gifts of $10 or greater following the end of the campaign in May. We thank you for your generosity.
The Challenge
The reality of international touring, and touring opera in particular, is that it is very expensive. For Opera Atelier’s production of Persée, we will have a company of 62 on the road for just over a week. The logistics alone are daunting!
However, Opera Atelier is in a unique position in the world of opera – over the last 25 years, OA has toured an astonishing fifteen times, to places as far-flung as Singapore and as close to home as Cleveland, with Europe, Japan and Korea thrown in for good measure.
But our experience does not relieve the financial challenge that faces Opera Atelier to take advantage of this extremely prestigious opportunity. The fees offered by the presenter, although generous, are calculated to cover only a portion of the hard costs of touring the production to Versailles. And of course, our timelines to secure the rest of the funding are extremely tight: Opera Atelier needs to secure $25,000 in private funding by May 10, 2014.
The Impact
Your contribution will play a key role in financing this large undertaking. Support this historic adventure with a donation, large or small, and contribute towards costumes or flying the cast and production team to Versailles.
Every little bit helps! We are asking for donations large and small, and have set up a series of rewards to thank you for your support, ranging from printing your name in our house programs, to hosting you at one of our rehearsals, to dinner with Co-Artistic Directors Marshall and Jeannette.
As a supporter of this special $25,000 challenge, you become a partner in our exciting and ambitious endeavour.
There are so many ways you can help make this dream a reality. Make a donation today of any size today and help us make history.
