Show One Productions, founded in 2004 by Russian Impresario Svetlana Dvoretsky, is celebrating ten years of presenting internationally renowned artists, orchestras, dance companies and unique attractions in Toronto and across Canada. Beginning this spring, Show One will present a variety of special tenth anniversary performances, including the return of two of its favourite musical guests along with the Canadian premiere of a legendary theatre company.
“For 10 years, Show One Productions has been proudly presenting internationally acclaimed artists from around the world and from many different ethnic backgrounds with a variety of religious and political beliefs,” said Dvoretsky, “but when it comes to choosing our artists, we have only one consideration, the most important of all: artistic merit.”
In 2004, Show One’s first professional presentation featured Vladimir Spivakov and the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra at the George Weston Recital Hall. Show One has presented Vladimir Spivakov on several occasions sinceto great acclaim and for standing-room only performances! Their return to Toronto, on Friday, May 9 at Roy Thomson Hall, marks Show One’s 10th anniversary as well as the Orchestra’s 35th anniversary.
The ensemble, made up of the top-ranking soloists from the great orchestras of Russia, have set the gold standard for chamber music performance. Vladimir Spivakov, an accomplished violinist as well, will lead the orchestra in a programme that includes repertoire from Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and the master of Tango, Astor Piazzolla “First-class string performers brought to perfection by Maestro Spivakov.” The New York Times
Following the concert, the entire audience is invited to a lobby party celebrating ten years of Show One Productions, and featuring Daniela Nardi’s jazz-world project Espresso Manifesto.
One of the worlds greatest and most versatile opera stars, Baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, makes his recital debut in Toronto with longtime partner, pianist Ivari Ilja, at the acoustically stunning Koerner Hall on Saturday, June 1 @ 7pm, with a repertoire that includes works by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Medtner and Liszt. “One of the most remarkable international vocal careers ever, his voice is redolent of luxury: beautiful tone, pinpoint intonation, elegant, and impassioned delivery,” The New York Times
For one exceptional night only, on Tuesday, June 10 at the Toronto Centre for the Arts, Show One Productions will present the Canadian premiere of the legendary Vakhtangov State Academic Theatre of Russia with their award-winning, theatrical adaptation of EUGENE ONEGIN, Pushkin’s iconic Russian tale of unrequited love. With a cast of 45, impressive set and costumes, and the music of Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich, this daring and stylish production has been called “Brilliant” by Le Monde, “Dazzling” by The Guardian, and is well on its way to establishing itself as modern masterpiece of theatre.
Over the past decade, Svetlana Dvoretsky with Show One Productions has presented an eclectic line-up of illustrious artists who have enthralled and engaged audiences across Canada in the country’s greatest concert halls and houses including: Valery Gergiev with the Mariinsky Orchestra; John Malkovich in The Giacomo Variations; the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra with Yannick Nézet-Séguin; Belgian pop singer Lara Fabian in her long-awaited return to Canada; the Canadian premiere of clowning sensation Aga-Boom; and critically-acclaimed dance companies Les Ballets Trockaderos de Monte Carlo (US), Tango Fire (Argentina) Maria Pages Flamenco Company (Spain) and the Canadian debut of the St. Petersburg Eifman Ballet (Russia); to name only a few of their hundreds of shows.
The daughter of pianist Anetta Maizel and Dr. Michael Dvoretsky, Svetlana’s extensive exposure to a wide range of artists and musicians at a young age fuelled her passion for music and the arts. Born and raised in St. Petersburg, Russia, Svetlana moved to Toronto in 1998, founded Show One Productions in 2004 and is celebrating ten years of music and art in 2014.
“Throughout history, music and art have been a unifying force. Show One will continue to bring you the world’s greatest performers who can celebrate, comfort and give expression to our emotions, and truly affect our deepest levels of humanity,” added Dvoretsky. “We appreciate your kind support and interest in what we do.”
