Andrea Martin may have two Broadway plays lined up but she also has a day job — author.
The freshly minted Tony Award-winner for her dazzling work in "Pippin" said Tuesday she's rushing to finish her memoir by the publisher's March 17 deadline. "I'm carrying on — I'm now on page 280 — and I have literally nothing about my career," she said, laughing.
The collection of stories will be called "Andrea Martin's Lady Parts" and will be published by Harper Collins in September. "Now I'm scurrying," she said.
In the meantime, Martin will be starring alongside Santino Fontana, Chuck Cooper and Tony Shalhoub in "Act One," a play adapted and directed by James Lapine from the autobiography of theater legend writer and director Moss Hart.
Martin plays several roles, including Hart's tragic aunt, a literary agent and writer Beatrice Kaufman. Previews begin March 20 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center with an opening set for April 17.
She read Hart's 450-page memoir on a flight from Los Angeles and New York and fell in love. "I'm so thrilled to be in it. If you're in the theater, it almost feels like you're passing on a legacy. It feels like an important thing to do."
Martin is also the first star announced in the revival of Michael Frayn's Tony-nominated farce "Noises Off," which is set to begin performances in January 2015 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway.
Martin, 67, twirled on a trapeze high above the stage in the circus-themed revival of "Pippin." "I wanted to prove to myself and everybody that there was still a reason to get up in the morning and to keep going," she said.
Martin, who also won a Tony for "My Favorite Year," has many Broadway credits, including "Young Frankenstein," ''Oklahoma!" and "Candide." The Emmy winner and veteran of "SCTV" recently wrapped a season of the Canadian sitcom "Working the Engels." Her film roles include parts in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and "Hedwig and the Angry Inch."
