A new collaborative venture is underway with Unit 102 Theatre players, which sees us departing from 163 Sterling Rd, unit 5 come May 31st 2014. These are exciting times where Kyle Labine, Sophie Ann Rooney and Danka Scepanovic will collaborate with Luis Fernandes, David LaFontaine, Jesse Hughes and Scott Walker. This will see Unit 102 and Sterling housed under the same roof in a renamed theatre at Queen and Dufferin at the end of the year. More information will follow in a joint Sterling - Unit 102 Theatre press release with all the juicy details.
It is important for us to recognize this as both the end of something that was great and also the start of something even greater. While the space will no longer be part of Toronto’s incredible indie theatre scene, those who made it what it was will continue to create and have their artistic voices heard, even more loudly.
Join us for an inventory sale and party Tuesday May 28th 8PM - more information can be found on our website sterlingstudiotheatre.com.
Come say goodbye to this location by supporting ‘Burn This’, directed by Sophie Ann Rooney, One Acts Week 1 Doublebill: ‘Laundry & Bourbon’, directed by Jimi Shlag and ‘Lonestar’, directed by Danka Scepanoovic. Week 2 ‘Central Park West’, directed by Taryn Jorgenson & Music acts, Week 3 Doublebill: ‘Sailor’s Song’, directed by Angela Besharah and ‘The Red Coat’, directed by Sophie Ann Rooney. One Acts Closing party is scheduled Sunday May 25th after ‘Sailor’s Song’.
We would like to thank all the artists, patrons and press who have supported our indie theatre these past two years at 163 Sterling Rd. We built the theatre from the ground up and without your continued support we could never have accomplished what we have.
We take this time to thank the collective members: Kyle Labine for all his long hours spent building and creating in the space, from the sets to the raised stage, as well as his raw acting and directing which saw much praise. Angela Besharah for her stunning photography, critically acclaimed direction, for her chameleon-like acting abilities and artistic direction. Sophie Ann Rooney for producing 24 season shows, as well as for her direction, artistic direction and acting. Danka Scepanovic for her raw talent, sheer tenacity and reliability in everything she touched. Candice Mausner for her generosity as our publicist and gracing the stage in two shows. Caroline Millen for her delightful social media posts and embodying the quintessential Vivie Warren. Alana Pancyr for her breath taking art work from season posters to set design and for acting in this year’s ‘Ravenscroft’. Noah Davis for his vulnerability on and off the page, sharing his beautiful gift ‘You Said Love’ to Toronto audiences. Carleigh Beverly for her support and tackling two gritty lead roles in our first season. Ashleigh Rains for her fruitful hard work in publicity, as well as shining on stage in two of our second season shows.
Angela Besharah will be stepping down as Co-Artistic Director at the end of the season to pursue her other endeavours. We wish her the best of luck and are truly grateful for everything she has given to the community, to Sterling and to art itself. Sophie would like to personally thank Angela from the bottom of her heart 'Angela is Sterling's sunshine, a true gem and will be missed, but I know what she has in store is going to be amazing, much love and joy on all your future endeavours'.
