Aim for the Tangent Theatre and Newborn Theatre are proud to present the Toronto debut of a unique voice in Canadian theatre. Conceived as a challenge to theatrical impossibility, having undergone two years of development, Of Shapes Transformed by Love brings together some of Toronto’s most exciting young artists for a night of myths and magic.
Written and directed by Kyle Capstick, the play features set and lighting design by Joe Pagnan, costumes and props by Lindsay Junkin, and performances by Wesley J. Colford, Erin Eldershaw, Alexi Pedneault, Matt Pilipiak, Andrew Pimento, Brittany Robinson, Hilary Scott, and Amy Marie Wallace. Set within the beautiful semi-outdoors of Majlis Multidisciplinary Art Garden, Of Shapes Transformed by Love promises to provide a fully immersive, theatrically organic event.
“Say we’re hunting in the woods.
We’ve gotten separated when—
you hear me scream.
You run towards the sound and you see two things. One is me.
You don’t know what the other is.
You can’t tell which is me.
What do you do?”
Kyle Capstick is an emerging playwright and native of Marion Bridge, Nova Scotia. He has learned from some of Canada’s most influential theatre artists, including Daniel MacIvor, Judith Thompson, Ross Manson, and Bryony Lavery. In 2011, he placed second in the Playwrights Guild of Canada’s Post-Secondary Playwriting Competition and in 2012 he took the grand prize in Pat the Dog’s 24-Hour Playwriting Competition. Of Shapes Transformed by Love marks his Toronto debut.
Aim for the Tangent Theatre is a Toronto based theatre company with an interest in providing creative opportunities and mentorship for emerging artists, and finding innovative ways to tell old stories through the development of new work. Past productions include Genesis & Other Stories, Mature Young Adults, and The Wakowski Bros. (Best of Fringe 2012). Newborn Theatre presents new plays by young playwrights and has curated and produced The Odds and Ends Festival for the past two seasons.
