Nancy Oakley, GCTC’s General Manager for the past nine years, recently announced that she will step down at the end of the theatre’s current 2013-2014 season.
Ms Oakley began working for the company when it was located on Gladstone near Preston and shepherded the move into the new Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre on Wellington seven years ago.
As General Manager she led the company in strategic planning and revenue generation as well as managing the theatre’s operations, financials, human resources and governance. Ms Oakley strengthened the core competencies in the development, marketing, media, box office, administration, rentals and community outreach departments. She also developed successful models to secure revenue through earned, public and private sources to ensure an environment for vibrant artistic programming.
“One of the achievements I am most proud of is being a leader on the team working to complete the $1.6 million dollar capital campaign for the construction of the Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre. With just $160 thousand left to go, I am working with the Board on a matching challenge campaign to raise the final funds. I can’t wait to return for the mortgage burning party!” – Nancy Oakley
Nhanci Wright, Chair of the Theatre’s Board of Directors said they were very sad to accept Nancy Oakley’s resignation. “Throughout Nancy’s career she has been a passionate leader for the arts with the ability to develop and implement a shared vision among the staff, Artistic Director, Board members, and stakeholders. We are sorry she is leaving and wish her nothing but the best.” Ms Wright is heading the search committee and the position has been posted.
Ms Oakley said she plans to apply her twenty plus years of senior management experience to the new opportunities and challenges ahead.
The Great Canadian Theatre Company is celebrating its 40th season in 2014-2015. Forty years of producing and promoting excellent theatre that provokes examination of Canadian life and its place in the world. Along with events celebrating its 40th anniversary, GCTC will continue to showcase engaging theatre and forging creative partnerships within the community.
