Buddies in Bad Times Theatre is pleased to announce the line-up for Queer Pride 2014 – a festival of queer theatre, comedy, art, music, and parties that showcases our community's unstoppable spirit. For four weeks, Buddies hosts a stellar line-up of Toronto’s most exciting queer entertainers, while Buddies After Hours offers up some of the most outrageous clubbing in the Village.
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
•Buddies marks its 35th birthday with 35 Years & Counting, a wild night that celebrates our incredible history and the people who have made it all possible.
•In partnership with Obsidian Theatre and WorldPride 2014 Toronto, Buddies presents a staged reading of Ugandan playwright ADONG Lucy Judith’s vital work, Just Me, You and The Silence.
•WorldPride 2014 Toronto and Buddies team up to present a staged reading of Lady Hamlet – a play by renowned author and activist Sarah Schulman, who will be in attendance at this Canadian premiere.
•PrideCab, a multi-disciplinary cabaret created by members of Buddies’ Queer Youth Arts Program that explores what it means to be young and queer today.
•The best queer comedy in town, with perennial favourites Bitch Salad and Homo Night in Canada showcasing the talents of Drew Droege, Dawn Whitwell, Lindy Zucker, Katherine Ryan, The Cheeto Girls, Shawn Hitchins, and Elvira Kurt plus Toronto sensations Gavin Crawford and Sharron Matthews join forces on stage for the first time.

Come experience a powerful new play by Ugandan writer ADONG Lucy Judith about the harsh anti-homosexuality laws that divide her country. Just Me, You and the Silence traces the rise of a fictional politician who uses his new found power to introduce a bill that divides a nation. A panel discussion will follow the reading.

Two artists, both born to play Hamlet, also happened to be born women. With 1920s New York City as their sparring field, they engage in a war of wits that leaves their colleagues and lovers caught in the crossfire. Buddies teams up with World Pride to present a reading of this new work by renowned writer and thinker Sarah Schulman. The writer will be in attendance.
