Sunday May 25th 2pm Matinee PWYC
Sunday May 25th 8pm 8PM (One Acts Closing Party)
John Patrick Shanley's Sailor's Song directed by Angela Besharah 'There is something endearing in all of the characters, even when you have to search for it. Andrew Cameron’s Rich has his wide-eyed, boyish demeanor. Stefne Mercedes’ Joan has an offbeat charm; she’s clearly loony-tunes, but there’s an intriguing stoicism there. As Lucy, Jessica Kennedy is both goofy and wise. Even Malcolm Taylor’s Uncle John eventually shows some vulnerability hidden beneath all his lecherous bravado.' Istvan Dugalin MOONEY ON THEATRE
John Patrick Shanley's A Lonely Impulse of Delight '(Oliver) Pigott and (Kyle) Labine are sincere and vulnerable. And director Sophie Ann Rooney has crafted a hypnotically cool, moody atmosphere.' AND Sailor's Song 'The experience of the play mirrors being on the water in a seafaring adventure. There are moments full of sunlight and joy as Rich discovers the whimsical personalities of Joan and Lucy. Then, the water goes dark with death and decay as Rich sits with his uncle, listening to his aunt’s final rasping breaths. One world is full of possibilities, the other: regret. And the two worlds come together in a heartbreaking finale.' Istvan Dugalin MOONEY ON THEATRE.

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to this stage, so beautifully built and managed by Kyle Labine . All shows in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons were under co-artistic directors Sophie Ann Rooney and Angela Besharah, their programming brought over 50 actors to the stage, showcased world premiere’s by local playwrights Jane Cooper Ford, Adam Hunter Collier, Carolyn Bennett and resident playwright Noah Davis, worked with local musicians, saw artists paint the stage, saw stage veterans and up & comers, with plays ranging from Shaw to Shanley. 9 shows the first season, 16 this 2013-14 season - Bravo!
Thank you to creative team Danka Scepanovic, Ashleigh Rains, Candice Mausner, Caroline Millen, Carleigh Beverly, Alana Pancyr, Noah Davis for every hour spent making this dream a possibility.
It is fitting this space ends with John Patrick Shanley as it all began with his ‘Danny and the Deep Blue Sea’ with Kerri Smith and Drew Nelson, Sept 2012.
