We are proud to announce the Toronto theatrical premiere of Confessions of a Fairy's Daughter, Alison Wearing's award winning one woman show based on her best selling memoir. A comical and touching story about growing up with a gay dad in Peterborough and Toronto, this show fits perfectly into the mix as an affiliate event of World Pride.
Woven through music and imagery, this comic monologue moves from Alison Wearing's carefree, Gilbert & Sullivan-laced childhood to the moment she learned, at age twelve, that her family was a tad more complex than she had thought.
It was the 1980s. The words 'gay' and 'parent' hadn't been put in the same sentence yet. So the Wearing family did what they could:
they improvised.
Balancing intimacy, history and downright hilarity, this is a story of the early days of rainbow family life in Canada: birthday parties and bath house raids, confusion and closets, scandals and soufflés, disco and opera, and the triumphant music of love.
