July 16, 2014, Blyth, Ontario... Everyone loves a party! Especially when it celebrates two people in love and about to tie the knot.
So, if you are celebrating your 40th wedding anniversary or getting married this year the folks at Blyth want you to join them on July 30th at the first evening performance of Mark Crawford's hilarious new comedy, Stag and Doe, and at a pre-show reception beginning at 6:30pm. Just call the box office for your complimentary tickets and let them know it's your 40th anniversary or you're getting married this year and enjoy an evening with your loved one watching the antics of the loving couples in Stag and Doe.
In the community hall on a Saturday morning, Bonnie and Brad (Elizabeth Kalles and Eli Ham) are preparing Jell-O shooters for their Stag and Doe; Mandy and Rob (Nicole Joy-Fraser and Jason Chesworth) show up in a state of emergency, demanding the use of the hall that night for their wedding reception; could it get any worse? Add maid-of-honour Dee (Rebecca Auerbach), the girl Rob jilted at the altar and Jay (Greg Gale), the caterer and the day spins out of control.
Playwright Mark Crawford grew up on his family's beef farm near Glencoe and studied at the University of Toronto and Sheridan College. Stag and Doe is his first script. He was last seen on stage at Blyth Festival in Vimy. His other acting credits include Elwood P. Dowd in Harvey at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, The Notorious Right Robert and His Robber Bride with Festival Players of Prince Edward County, It's a Wonderful Life at Theatre New Brunswick, See How They Run at Hamilton's Theatre Aquarius and A Midsummer Night's Dream at Canadian Stage.
Director Miles Potter has spent over thirty five years directing across Canada, working on classics and developing new Canadian plays. He has directed numerous productions for Blyth Festival including I'll Be Back Before Midnight, Another Season's Promise, Jake's Place, Innocence Lost and Pearl Giddley. Other directing credits include productions at Stratford Festival, The National Arts Centre and Mirvish Productions, among many others. He has also been a guest director and teacher at the National Theatre School, George Brown College, Humber College, Dalhousie University and The University of Missouri at Kansas City. Miles received a Dora nomination for his production of Molly Sweeney, a co-production between The Grand Theatre and Canadian Stage; a Dora Award for The Drawer Boy at Theatre Passe Muraille and a Jessie Award for The Taming of the Shrew at Vancouver's Bard on the Beach.
Pat Flood is designing the community hall setting; Alison Marshall is designing the costumes, Steve Lucas the lighting and Todd Charlton the sound. The production stage manager is Crystal MacDonell and the assistant stage manager is Heather Thompson. The fight director is Anita Nittoly.
