July 18, 2014, Blyth, Ontario... At Goderich Place last Wednesday evening, almost 80 residents, volunteers and guests were entertained with a sneak preview of St. Anne's Reel, a new play by Gil Garratt that's receiving its world premiere at Blyth Festival this summer.
Artistic Director and director of St. Anne's Reel Marion de Vries began the evening by talking about Blyth's 40th Season and gave a brief synopsis of the show. The cast, David Fox, Emily Lukasik and J.D. Nicholsen, then performed two scenes and played a selection of the old-time fiddle tunes that are woven throughout the show.
Garratt talked about his inspiration for the show and then invited his two sons, Gideon (8) and Gulliver (6), to join him, and all three played their violins entertaining the gathering with a variety of tunes.
"The residents enjoyed meeting the actors and having a preview of the play," says Sue LeBeau, Sales & Marketing Manager at Goderich Place. "The special treat was having the children come and play along with their Dad. The residents are still talking about it today. We are all looking forward to coming to the play. Thank you for a wondering evening," LeBeau said.

It's the story of Daniel, a washed-up Dollywood rhinestone cowboy, returning to the family farm near Wingham after many years, to mourn his mother's death. While there he hopes to patch things up with his father but gets drawn right back into scrapping with the old man, who used to play fiddle with the Ranch Boys on Circle 8. St. Anne's Reel is at Blyth Festival from August 6 to September 6. Tickets are available by calling 519.523.9300; toll free 1.877 862.5984 or online at blythfestival.com.
